All Cooped Up: History of American Bantam Association
Paperback: 186 pages
Patricia Lacey has written a detailed history of the American Bantam Association called All Cooped Up. She is particularly well suited to author such a book as an historian and licensed ABA Poultry Judge. Although this book is short, it is full of details, backed by historical data, and brings to life the drama of the ABA being separated from the American Poultry Association.
The poultry book begins with a nice overview of how the APA came into existence and describes the popularity of raising poultry in the 19th century. Lacey includes interesting facts about some famous figures who also raised poultry during that time. The second section of the book gives a year by year history of the ABA, including details and quotes from historical documents.
This book is an excellent resource for anyone who would like to become a judge or an officer through the ABA, anyone who is interested in the history of poultry exhibitions, or anyone who would like to know more about how the ABA came into existence or why it exists separately from the APA. If you are new to raising poultry, or not particularly interested in organizational behavior, you may find the book not to your liking.
Lacey has done an excellent job of chronicling the history of an organization that is important to bantam breeders and those who compete in poultry shows. She has created a lasting contribution to the poultry fancy that is well worth your time.
