FAQPurely Poultry Frequently Asked Questions
Please also check out these other pages for more information: How far in advance should I place my poultry order? Please place your order as soon as you how many birds you need and when you want them to arrive. We suggest a minimum of 2-6 weeks before your desired delivery date, however we can also sometimes do rush orders. You can order several months in advance, beginning in January. If you need a rush order, please state ASAP in the Order Comments section, and also let us know if we can make substitutions if we are a few short of the breed you want. When we schedule deliveries, we choose the soonest date that we will have all of your varieties. When will my credit card be charged? Immediately. This allows us to reserve the chicks you want. When can I put young poultry outside? It depends on the weather. Baby chicks and other baby poultry need the temperature to be 95 degrees for the first week and five degree less each week after that. When the weather outside is cooler than that, don't put the chicks outside. Also, chicks should be protected from the rain. As an estimate, about six weeks should be good during late spring and the summer. Do you sell hatching eggs? No. We cannot guarantee eggs, but we can and do guarantee live delivery of chicks. Do you sell adult birds? Only if the product description states "adult bird." Most of the adults we sell are quail, wild waterfowl, and pheasants. We do not sell grown chickens or ready-to-lay pullets. How old are the birds when they arrive? The chicks are shipped the same day that they hatch. When they arrive to you they are 24-72 hours old. I live in the city and need a quiet breed. What breed of chicken is quietest? All chickens are equally noisy. Many city ordinances do ban roosters, though, so be sure to order all females. Can I cancel my order? Cancellations are subject to a $10 cancellation fee. No refunds on cancellations within 7 days of ship date. Can I change my order? Any changes after the order has been placed are subject to a $10.00 fee. May I receive a catalog? We send catalogs at the first of each month. You can also view a digital copy or print your own. Please see our Catalog Page for more information. What does sold out mean? Sold out means that we expect those birds to be sold out for the year. There is a slim chance, if production increases, that they will be available again later in the year. If you are interested in finding out when we may have them available, please sign up for a back in stock notification which is at the bottom of the page for each product. We suggest ordering in February next year to get your order in before they are sold out for next year. We do not take pre-orders for the following year. Do notify us when you get this breed back in stock? Yes, we send back in stock notification emails if you sign up for them. We do not take pre-orders for orders that are sold out. I had difficulties placing an order. Did it go through? When an order is successfully placed, you will receive an order number and then be asked if you would like to log out. You will also get an invoice via email immediately. If those things didn't happen, please call us at 920-472-4068 to complete your order. Do you export? Can you ship to a different country? No, we only sell chicks to the United States and cannot export to Canada or any other country. Do you vaccinate for Marek's Disease? We do vaccinate for Marek's. Please add Mareks Vaccine to your cart! If you placed an order and forgot to add it, simply place another order for the vaccine and we will make sure that your chicks get vaccinated. Could we pick up our birds? We do not allow you to drive for a pickup at our office. The birds we sell are shipped directly from the hatcheries and breeders where they are hatched. Birds are shipped to your local post office. What magazines do you subscribe to? I am a member of the American Poultry Association, American Bantam Association, Society for Preservation of Poultry Antiquities, United Peafowl Association, and American Pheasant and Waterfowl Society. I also subscribe to Game Bird Gazette, Mother Earth News, Grit Magazine, Backyard Poultry Magazine and the Poultry Press. We'd like to visit your farm. Do you allow tours? We do not allow visitors because Purely Poultry is a sales office so there is not much to see. We can have chicks shipped to your post office. What is your minimum order? Our minimum orders are displayed on the Shipping page. How do I check the status of my order? You can login to check the status of your order. Click on My Account, then Previous Orders which will state the current status. Click on View at the right and it will show the comments on your order. You can also call us at 920-472-4068 to check the status of your order. My bird has red swelling eyes. What is wrong with it? Red swelling eyes sounds could be mycoplasmosis. Learn more about mycoplasmosis, and keep in mind we are not veterinarians, and accept no liability. Do you sell show quality poultry? Most of our breeds are not show quality. Some of the rare stock is as good as can be found, but we do not claim they are of show quality. We are working hard to expand the selection of poultry on our site and look forward to offering a complete line up of exhibition poultry in the future. Will I receive an e-mail when the chicks ship? If your chicks are scheduled to ship, expect them to ship and arrive either the next day or the second day after they are scheduled to ship regardless of if you receive an email from us or not. We will mark them as shipped as soon as possible.
My ducks or geese arrived with leg bands. Do I have to remove them? What do they mean? Duckling Breed Identification and Sexing Guide will show you the different colors that the leg bands will be depending on the breed of the ducks. |
