Called Pharaoh Quail for being a food source for ancient civilizations including the Egyptians, Israelites, Chinese and Japanese. Uses: This is the most prolific gamebird that can be found. Their egg-laying rate is unmatched and their gourmet meat is highly sought-after. These birds are also very commonly used in dog training and falconry. Male has solid colored chest - female has speckled chest. Adult wt. 10-12 oz.The standard Coturnix is a standard brown/wild variety. This is the common or original Pharhaoh quail. Excellent meat production and prolific egg layers. Coturnix Quail are the meat and egg producers of the quail family. Coturnix Quail, also called Japanese Quail are very hearty and thrive in cages. Coturnix Quail were domesticated in Japan in the 12th century. Coturnix Quail have a very rapid metabolism, which means Coturnix Quail grow and mature quickly.
