Excellent meat production and prolific egg layers. Coturnix Quail are the meat and egg producers of the quail family. Coturnix Quail, also called Japanese Quail are very hearty and thrive in cages. Coturnix Quail were domesticated in Japan in the 12th century. Coturnix Quail have a very rapid metabolism, which means Coturnix Quail grow and mature quickly. In general, Coturnix Quail birds mature in 6 weeks and are at full production in less than 8 weeks. Coturnix Quail lifespan is from 1 to 2 years, and a Coturnix Quail hen can lay up to 300 eggs in a lifetime. Coturnix Quail eggs have a wide variety of color and markings. Incubation: Coturnix quail eggs hatch in 17 days, last day of turning is day 14. Temp and humidity requirements are 99.5F and 60% relative humidity for the first 14 days, and 99F and 70% relative humidity the last three days. Coturnix quail may start laying eggs as early as 6 weeks of age compared to 16 weeks for the Bobwhite quail. The incubation time needed for fertile cortunix quail eggs is shorter (14-17 days) compared to Bobwhite quail eggs (23 days).
