Shipping & Returns

The chicks are shipped the same day that they hatch. When they arrive to you they are 24-72 hours old. Baby chicks ingest the yolk before they hatch. This is enough to feed the chicks and keep them happy until they arrive at their destination!

Live Guarantee: We guarantee that your chicks are alive and well after 24 hours. Here's how it works:

  • After 24-hours of receiving your order, count the number of chicks of each kind that are ALIVE and WELL.
  • If that number is LESS than the number you ordered, please fill out our Live Arrival Guarantee Claim Form http://www.purelypoultry.com/shippinginfo.html#lagform
  • Please do not give us a dead count as we may include extras.
  • YOU MUST REPORT within 48 hours of receiving the chicks to be eligible for a credit.
  • Purely Poultry is not responsible if customer does not pick up birds in time; customer must be available to pick up the days the chicks are scheduled to be delivered.
  • We do not credit shipping cost.

Ship Dates: Please specify a range of acceptable dates on the order form.

  • Example: I would like my chicks to arrive in March. (NOT I would like my chicks to arrive March 3.)
  • After receiving the order, we will contact you with the ship date.
  • Expect your order to arrive at your local post office in one to three days from the shipping date. However 98% of orders arrive in two days.
  • We do our best meet the scheduled shipment date. If we are unable to provide chicks on the scheduled hatch day, you can choose to reschedule or receive a refund or store credit.
  • We ship chicks on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Orders are filled on a first come, first served basis, so it is important to place your paid order as soon as possible to get the best chance at earlier ship dates. Typically an order can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks. Please let us know if you are willing to accept any substitutions to get a quicker ship date.

Arrival: Chicks will be shipped to your post office and they will call you on arrival.
You will need to pick up your chicks from the post office as they will not deliver them directly to you.
The yolk sacs will be enough to feed the chick until it arrives at its destination.
We ship the chicks in boxes with holes so it is properly ventilated.

Books: We ship books Media Mail via the postal service. It takes usually takes 1 week for books to arrive but can take up to two weeks.

Pickup: We do not offer local pick ups.  We use a nationwide network of breeders and hatcheries to offer a wide selection of poultry. We would be happy to arrange a shipment directly to your local post office.

Sexing Guarantee: We understand that people order male or female chicks for a reason, and we guarantee 90% accuracy in sexing. We will credit for birds we send of the wrong sex that are in excess of the 90% sexing accuracy guarantee.

Cancellations are subject to a $10 fee. No cancellations within 2 weeks of a scheduled shipping date. If you decide to cancel your order, please call or email us with your order number and a reason for the cancellation. Sometimes it is necessary for Purely Poultry to cancel an order, and we reserve the right to do so; If your order must be canceled, you will be issued a full refund.

Returns: You are welcome to return merchandise (non-live) products, but not birds. If you need to return merchandise, simply do so within 30 days. Product must be in their original condition; if shrink-wrapped they must be unopened. Include the packing slip with your return so that we will know who gets the credit. Should the return be a result of an error on our part, we will gladly pay the return shipping costs.

Order Changes: Purely Poultry will not change an order after it has been placed. We will simply cancel the original order. The customer can then place a new order. The cancellation will incur the cancellation fee and original shipment date will be lost.

NPIP: All of our birds are certified by the National Poultry Improvement Plan. If you would like to receive the NPIP paperwork with your birds, please indicate so on your order.

Hawaii and Exporting: We ship all of our chicks via United Postal Service Priority Mail to the continental United States, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. We cannot export. We can not provide documentation for Hawaii, Canada or any other country or territory. 

Quality: We do not guarantee that they will be exhibition quality birds. They will represent the variety and breed that you order. Most of our breeds are not show quality. Some of the rare stock is as good as can be found, but we do not claim they are of show quality. We are working hard to expand the selection of poultry on our site and look forward to offering a complete line up of exhibition poultry in the future.
