Blue Swedish Ducks and Black Swedish Ducks are attractive ducks are known for their blue color and have a white bib that runs from under the bill halfway down the breast. Swedish are very hardy ducks and good foragers. Daffy Duck, of Disney fame, is probably a Black Swedish ? the only difference is that Daffy has white on his neck and a Black Swedish has white on its chest. Swedish ducks were very calm temperament duck.

Production: Blue Swedish Ducks and Black Swedish Ducks will lay mostly white eggs with an occasional blue or gray tinted duck egg. Blue Swedish ducks lay 130 to 180 eggs per year and will go broody. The eggs are 80-90 grams. Blue Swedish ducks will reach table weight at 16 weeks. Our duck breeding flock during lay are 5 to 6.5 pounds.

Genetics of Blue Swedish Ducks If you use all Blue Swedish Ducks as breeders, only 50% of the Swedish Ducks hatch in the blue/grey color of their parents. Half of the remainder hatch as Black Swedish ducks and the other 25% hatch as splash Swedish Ducks. Only by crossing the silver with the Black Swedish and the splash Swedish do you obtain 100% Blue Swedish ducklings. Black Swedish ducks do breed true. If you cross Black Swedish ducks with Black Swedish ducks you will only have black progeny.

Swedish Duck History: Blue Swedish and Black Swedish were developed in Pomerania area of Europe as early as 1835. At the time it was part of the Swedish Kingdom but is now the area of northeast Germany and northwest Poland. They were first imported into the USA in the late 1800?s. Blue Swedish Ducks were admitted into the American Standard of Perfection 1904.
