Frizzle Cochins are sweet, fluffy, and super cute little chickens. Frizzle feathers curl outward instead of laying flat to their body. Due to these unique feathers, they are flightless and are not very waterproof or otherwise protected from the elements. Frizzles are popular because of these unique feathers.

The Frizzle is not a breed, but a genetic characteristic that can be bred in any chicken. The frizzle gene does not breed true. Therefore about 25% of the offspring will have regular feathers, 50% will have frizzled feathers, and 25% will be over-frizzled. The history of the frizzle has not been well documented, but it is believed they first appeared in India and the Philippines in the 18th Century. Today the most common frizzles are the Cochins and Polish. To avoid a majority of over-frizzing, it is best to breed a frizzle to a straight feathered bird rather than a frizzle to a frizzle. A frizzle bred to a silkie creates a "sizzle."
