Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantam Chickens are sociable, regal, pet-sized and low maintenance. They are an excellent addition to a backyard poultry flock.

Production: Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantams are raised primarily as pets or for showing as an ornamental breed. Hens may lay an average of three bantam-sized eggs per week. The eggs vary in color from white to light brown.

Temperament: This gentle breed is friendly and curious. They make wonderful pets and are an outstanding choice for children. Roosters sometimes have a reputation for dominance, but most Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantam owners report little or no aggression.

History: The breed has been identified for more than 400 years. The Dutch artist Albert Cuyp painted d'Anvers in the 1700s. Malaysian sailors imported chickens with d'Anvers characteristics during the same period. In 1949 the Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantam was recognized by the American Poultry association. Breeders have now developed the breed to today's standard of excellence. In addition to long recognition in Europe and Great Britain, the Belgian Bearded d'Anver Bantam is a favorite show bird in the United States. It has been recognized by the Standard of Perfection in the American Poultry Association since 1949.

Color Description: The American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association recognize fourteen colors, from quail to porcelain white. Most d'anvers are quail colored. We offer the following colors: Black, Blue Quail, and Quail. Any blue variety ordered from Purely Poultry may include chicks with black, blue, or splash plumage patterns.

Body type: The tiny Belgian Bearded d'Anver has a rounded breast, arched tail, and a small rose comb. A beard of feathers covers the ears. Wattles are small or not present.
