Production: Blue Laced Red Wyandotte hens will produce roughly 200 eggs a year, though some heavy layers are reported to produce as many as 240 eggs in a year. These eggs are medium-sized and light brown or cream in color. These birds may also be raised for meat, making them an excellent dual-purpose chicken to keep on any farm.

Temperament: Blue Laced Red Wyandottes are exceedingly friendly pet chickens, especially if they are reared around people. They are easy-going birds that are excellent for farms where children are running around, they are mild-tempered in general. Some of them become friendly enough that they will jump up on their owner's laps if they are offered a treat. Because of their docile nature, they are a good choice for first-time farmers. Another benefit related to getting Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chickens is that the laying hens are naturally broody and will eagerly care for both eggs and baby chicks.

History: The Wyandotte chicken breed itself originally came from New York State at the end of the nineteenth century. The Blue Laced Red variety originally comes from the UK not very many years ago.

Color Description: As the name implies, Blue Laced Red Wyandotte chickens have predominantly reddish-brown feathers that are lightly bordered with an Andulasian blue stripe. While some feathers are only red, most of the features on the bird's chest and back will be colored in this way, giving the bird a beautifully striped, speckled look. The feathers should be sleek and straight, with a medium level of fluff.

Body type: Wyandotte chickens in general have a rounded, curvy figure. They are not as heavy as some chickens, and neither are they as tall and rangy as other breeds. Instead, they have a rounded body with strong wings, giving them a pleasantly balanced appearance.

Standard Weights: Rooster 8.5 lbs, Hen 6.5 lbs, Cockerel 7.5 lbs, Pullet 5.5 lbs
