Buff Orpingtons are gorgeous birds. They are bright golden in color and very fluffy and chunky. They have bright red single-tall combs and pretty wattles. 

Production: Buff Orpingtons make perfect dual-purpose production birds. Males will grow quite fast to a heavy table weight, and females will lay prodigious amounts of nice brown eggs. One can expect 200-280 eggs per year from each Buff Orpington hen. Hens will often go broody. Buff Orpingtons do well foraging as well.

Temperament: Orpingtons are known as one of the most docile and friendly breeds of chickens. They get along very well with other chickens, poultry, animals, and children. Besides being a dual purpose for meat and eggs, they also make good pet chickens.

History: Orpingtons were developed by the famous William Cook, who named the breed after his hometown, Orpington in England. They were almost immediately popular in England and then found worldwide fame when brought to the poultry show at Madison Square Garden in 1895. Shortly afterward, Buff Orpingtons were admitted into the American Poultry Association's Standard of Perfection in 1902.
