 One reason that Columbian Wyandotte Chickens are popular with backyard poultry owners is that they are highly productive, laying as many as 200 large brown eggs annually. Because they are cold-hardy, Columbian Wyandottes are dependable egg-layers in the winter. Another reason for the bird's popularity is that they can be raised for their excellent meat production, making them dual-purpose fowl.

Though first developed in the 1870s, this old American breed was named after the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 in Chicago, where it was first put on display. The original Wyandotte variety is the Silver Laced.

Color Description: Day-old baby Columbian Wyandotte Chickens are yellow with black backs and a patch of black on their heads. Mature Columbian Wyandottes exhibit a striking contrast in colors with thick white feathers with black lacing on their necks. Their tails feature more solid black, with some white lacing, while their wings are white with black lacing. Hens and Roosters also have rose combs and wattles.
