Falcated Duck 

A PAIR is a male/female pair of unrelated birds.

  • Breeding season May -July
  • Clutch Size 6-10
  • Incubation period 24-26 days
  • 1-1.75 pounds

 

The range of falcated ducks also known as falcated  teals, is  eastern Siberia and Mongolia into northern Japan and they winter in southeastern Asia into eastern India region.  

Both genders have black bills, yellowish legs and an irideccent green speculum on their wings.    They tend to be seen in the wild in pairs or smaller groups.  However when migrating are in large flocks .  

They are somewhat social creatures and have been known to associate with other species in the wild while in winter months and sometimes can cross breed with other "Anas" species of ducks.

Diet : Falcated ducks have food habits of small invertebrate and other insects as well as plant foods. They mainly eat vegetation or insects that are water based.. They also will  eat plant foods: leaves as well as seeds, grains, and nuts.
