Nepal Kalij Pheasants Details

Nepal Kalij Pheasants

The Nepal Kalij pheasant does not have the spectacular color of some pheasant species, but they do have nice red markings on the head and bluish-black coloration of the body. They are very easy to keep and feed. These birds become very trusting and responsive to those who care for them.

Habitat: The Nepal Kalij pheasant prefers areas of dense woods and brush.

Status in the Wild: These birds are not an endangered species. They are quite common in the wild.

Status in Aviculture: These pheasants are gaining in popularity due to ease of breeding.

Breeding: The Nepal Kalij hen will normally produce up to two clutches of eggs each year beginning in the early Spring. A normal clutch contains a range of 5 to 10 eggs. The incubation period is 25 days. These birds may live as long as 10 years.

Mature Weight: 1 lb 12 oz to 3 lbs.

Housing Requirements: These pheasants should be housed in an enclosed space approximately 8 x 16 feet. They should have a shelter of about 6 x 6 feet with a perch.
